Durham Vocal Festival 2017

I am thrilled to be able to bring you details of the inaugural Durham Vocal Festival which brings the finest local, national and international vocal music to Durham. Choral singing in Durham has a fantastically long and rich history – the Chorister School has been celebrating its 600th anniversary in 2016 and there were monks singing daily in the Cathedral before that. This week serves to offer a flavour of this from the UK premiere of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin, to the internationally known King’s Singers, Will Todd and National Youth Choir Fellowship Programme culminating in the North East Festival of Youth Choirs celebrating the diverse talent of young choral music in the area.
Alongside the prestigious performances there will also be workshops for primary choirs, conductors and members of the community to work alongside some of the choral world’s biggest names.
A huge thank you to all those partners that have made this festival possible: Durham Cathedral, Ushaw College, Durham County Council, Durham Music Service, Durham Area Action Partnership, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Music Durham, The Forge and Arts Council England.
