Based on Bizet’s world-famous opera Carmen, this Key Stage 1 and 2 singing project will inspire a generation of schoolchildren to engage with opera through story, character and song. This free programme for schools across the country includes free digital resources linked to the National Curriculum for teachers to use in lessons over their choice of a 10, 5 or 2 week-period.
To equip teachers to deliver this programme within their schools, there is a free fully certified CPD workshop led by a professional director and vocal leader at the Royal Opera House on Friday 1 March 2019 from 10am – 3.30pm.
The CPD session introduces teachers to the story of Carmen and the key characters through a variety of creative drama and singing exercises and will cover five numbers from the production which have been specifically adapted for a primary audience.
The CPD will cover areas such as:
- Dramatic Singing
- Theatrical staging
- Primary music pedagogy
- Basic conducting technique
