This session will help teachers understand voice change as part of a wider journey of physical, emotional and social development, enabling them to respond with confidence, curiosity and flexibility in the music classroom. Drawing on current research and practical classroom experience, the session will explore voice change in girls and boys, helping teachers create inclusive musical environments where all children can continue to participate and thrive.
Teachers will explore:
- What is happening physically when children’s voices begin to change
- The emotional and social factors that influence singing participation during adolescence
- Why changing voices are not just a boys’ issue
- Common classroom challenges and practical responses
- Supporting confidence while maintaining musical progression
- Creating inclusive spaces where all children feel safe to sing
The webinar will be facilitated by Émilie Bels, Sing Up’s Partnership Manager, alongside voice specialist Jenevora Williams, combining research-led insight with practical strategies that teachers can apply immediately in the classroom.
